How to Copyright Your Web Site

Filling Out the Copyright Registration Form When Updating the Registration

Let's see how to properly fill out Form TX to update an existing registration.

Spaces 1, 2, 3 & 4: are the same as when you first registered the site.

That was easy. On to side two:

Space 5: Previous registration: Yes. Check box C — "this is a changed version ..." Enter the registration number you already have and the year you registered it.

If you're registering a change before you've received your previous registration form (which can take several months, remember), write "registration pending" in the Previous Registration space.

Space 6A: Derivative work or Compilation: If nothing from the previous registration has changed — as opposed to things being added — then this space can be left blank. Otherwise, enter "Some text previously registered" — something that briefly takes note of what has changed and how it has changed.

Space 6B: Material added to this work: as stated. "Text and photos added".

Spaces 7, 8, and 9 are filled out as for the original registration.

Submit everything — application, fee, deposit material — as for the original registration. Everything is the same from this point as for the original registration. Again, keep copies of the registration form and deposit material for yourself.
