From time to time you will make changes to your site, adding some text or photos, changing the layout, and so on. Bearing in mind that the full protection of copyright registration only extends to the content you included in the registration package, changes made subsequent to that need to be protected also. The process is largely similar to the initial registration, but the details are sufficiently different that they need to be considered separately.
How often should you do this? That depends both on the quantity of changes and how punctilious you wish to be. You have three months' grace to register any new content (after you first register the entire site); but if in any given three-month period you have only updated a few elements you might feel it unnecessary to go through the process. It would probably be OK to include the changes for months 1-3 in with months 4-6 if there are a worthwhile number of additions in months 4-6; but in theory you are losing the full benefits of the protection for the month 1-3 changes if you do it that way. It's up to you; it costs $45 each time you do a registration no matter how much or how little is covered by it.
First: the deposit material. This needs to include only those elements of the web site that have changed since you first registered, or last updated the registration. Print them or copy them to diskette or CD as when first registering the site.
Take note here: some of the items you select this way may not be completely new, but have been changed since the last registration — perhaps you've corrected a typo or added a paragraph, for instance. Make a memo to yourself whether or not this is the case because it makes a slight difference in the way the registration form is filled out. You must use the normal/long Form TX for updates.
